Cournot games with biconcave demand
Biconcavity is a simple condition on inverse demand that corresponds to the ordinary concept of concavity after simultaneous parameterized transformations of price and quantity. The notion is employed here in the framework of the homogeneous-good Cournot model with potentially heterogeneous firms. The analysis leads to unified conditions, respectively, for the existence of a pure-strategy equil...
متن کاملCournot and Bertrand Games
The author describes a series of matrix choice games illustrating monopoly, shared monopoly, Cournot, Bertrand, and Stackelberg behavior given either perfect complements or perfect substitutes. The games are created by using a spreadsheet to fill out a profit table given the choices of two players. One player selects the column, the other the row, and the table gives the profit of the row choos...
متن کاملCournot games with limited demand: from multiple equilibria to stochastic equilibrium
We construct Cournot games with limited demand, resulting into capped sales volumes according to the respective production shares of the players. We show that such games admit three distinct equilibrium regimes, including an intermediate regime that allows for a range of possible equilibria. When information on demand is modeled by a delayed diffusion process, we also show that this intermediat...
متن کاملOn Nash-Cournot games with price caps
In this paper, we study an N-person Nash-Cournot game with a price cap. Under certain mild conditions, we show that this game can be formulated as a complementarity problem. Based on this formulation, we study various properties of the game, including equilibrium existence, computability, and a description of the equilibrium set when there are multiple equilibria.
متن کاملEfficiency Loss in Cournot Games
We consider Cournot models of competition, where market participants choose the quantities they demand or supply. We study the loss of aggregate surplus due to the exercise of market power in Cournot competition, for both oligopsony and oligopoly models. We observe that efficiency loss is generally arbitrarily high in Cournot games, but also prove bounds on efficiency loss in several cases of i...
